Giving Back
We are passionate about supporting people and organizations in our community who are working daily to make this world a better place.
The Learning Garden
In 2017, we were thrilled to support the Northland Library’s development of the forthcoming “Learning Garden.” The Learning Garden will establish a unique outdoor learning environment that includes a sensory garden for those with sensory processing issues.
Resources for Readers with Special Needs
We were very excited to partner with Northland Library in 2016 to bring more large print books and digital players to our community members who are unable to read books in traditional formats. We know how important reading is for brain health and happiness. By increasing adaptive resources and supplying on-site training for anyone interested, we hope to help make lifelong learning attainable and enjoyable for everyone.
The large print books and digital players will be such a welcomed addition and our patrons will have the benefit of training to learn all of the adaptive options available and how to access them.
Holiday “Pay it Forward”
Each year during the winter holidays we give our students personal gifts as well as matching gift cards to the Pittsburgh Foundation. We ask our students to “pay it forward” by using that money to donate to a Pittsburgh Foundation charity of their choice. It has been wonderful learning more about our students by hearing about the charity they have chosen and what it means to them.
We have also supported Kiva by giving our students the opportunity to grant micro loans to entrepreneurs within the United States or globally. As Kiva promotes, “Dreams are universal. Opportunity is not.” We hope to change that in our own small way.
Supporting Education
We know how much education has impacted our lives and we want everyone to have that opportunity. That’s why we were thrilled to fund a much-needed literacy easel for a kindergarten class through Donor’s Choose.
CCAC Honor’s Program International Trip to New Delhi, India
In 2016 and 2018, a small group of local community college (CCAC) honors students had the opportunity to travel internationally- learning through cultural immersion, academic research and community service. While this trip was a once in a lifetime opportunity, for many of these students it came with an overwhelming expense. We have been so happy to be able to help these students reach their goals.
This opportunity is rare for community college students. I cannot wait to share my experiences and research with everyone. These donations are truly changing the shape of our academic careers.
